Wild Joy in a Burning World

It’s daylight, barely.
It will get brighter,
Then again darker,
But it’s hard to see
Past the spot you walk.

As one columnist
In the Times puts it,
It’s hard not to ask
Now, What to Do With
Spring’s Wild Joy in a

Burning World? Burning
In so many ways,
Including with life,
Thanks to the burning
Of the sun, life’s hearth.

So now it’s getting
Warmer, when it’s been
So, so much colder,
And also warmer,
Before. A few steps,

A few thousand days,
That’s all you get, no
Matter what you get
Or when you get it.
It’s getting brighter.
