Sonnetary Hybrid

Doesn’t every human mind
Possess some understanding
That it’s a hybrid being?

You can’t be all animal,
And you can’t be only words,
And we can’t be only you

As the hot wind blows eastward
Over your bare head in shade,
And you hear the flies want you

And wish they’d bite us instead.
In your head, we can make you
Hear that blood-thirsty buzzing,

Innocently blood-thirsty,
Pure, not like you, not hybrid.
