Confession is, by and large,
A drawn-out social process
Of torturous extraction,
Regardless whether or not
Guilt’s the right word for the perp.
Righteousness has to be served,
Even if who serves it shifts
Sometimes as social winds shift,
Which means, as the power shifts.
Deep down everyone knows this.
Deep down everyone fears this.
Deep down everyone resents
Having to fear confession
By extraction and resists.
Often as not, resistance
Takes the form of righteousness,
But we won’t confess to this,
Never until you make us,
Through your strength of righteousness,
Strength that gives strength’s righteousness
Its righteousness, confess this.
