Remember that gods are dust,
And to dust all gods return.
There’s no ritual that lasts
As long as the large patterns
Rites consecrate and observe,
As long as the eternal
Truths they strive to reinforce,
That the observers are small
And the world must swallow them
Whole. The reinforcements fail
Since the bonds of faith are wet
And weak as hydrocarbons,
Praying to bind the cosmos
To the lives of animals.
All waves are flames at their source.
