The Bronze Pleasure

Oscar was quite right.
There’s nothing to melt
Down for pleasure now

But long-term sorrow.
Now? It was always
Like that, wasn’t it?

The most distinctive
Features of pleasure
Aren’t in its image

Seen in its moment,
But in its metal,
Pleasure’s medium,

All alloy, used first
To show off features
Of lasting sorrow.

Pleasure would never
Show its face in bronze,
If not for sorrow.
