No one really needs to learn
How to make a wish, although
We nonetheless teach children
Who take us seriously
Because they want it to work,
And trust adults to tell them.
All our lives we keep trying
To make this work, these wishes,
Always remaining convinced
It’s either in what you wish,
Or the rituals you choose,
Or who you choose to address.
It’s nobility of wish.
It’s whether sufficient work
Was done to realize it.
Or it’s humility, it’s
Just the right patron being,
The right wish technology.
We never learn what we don’t
Ever really need to learn.
Who would wish a world like this?
