If there were one star,
Only one nearby,
In a clear night sky
Far from city lights—
If the star system
Your world spun around
Were so far away
From its galaxy
Nothing but smudges
Of distant clusters
And galaxies shone
Beside that one star,
Nothing else altered—
Your planets, comets,
Whole solar system
The same, but only
One actual star
Shining, like a weak
And boring planet
Rotating through its
Pure groove, imagine
What mythology
Might have cooked up then.
Don’t bother. You can’t.
