And Also Today

Any being’s life glosses
Over as the frame retreats
From a focused depth of field—

Bacteria evanesce
From human vision, common
Humans become fungible

Widgets to alpha tyrants,
Tyrants are tiny humans
Themselves, the whole species specks

On a smooth, reflective bead
Vanishing in a star’s glare,
And so on. The mind enjoys

Zooming in and out with toys
Made of imagination,
But still it’s remarkable,

Isn’t it, that if you dig
Into the leaf-litter mulch
Of a dull life’s dullest hours

Lived in the most modest way,
There are always more details
Coming into view? Today.
