It’s Never New Until It’s Over

You think you see it happening,
But you don’t. You never catch it.
You grow more and more attentive,
More narrowly hone your focus,

But whatever you catch is there
Already, was already there.
Simple as morning on a wall
Sneaking down, a brick at a glance,

Or fancy as atomic labs
Doing quantum experiments
With femto and zepto fractions
Of the moments when it’s happened.

It’s happened, already happened.
All observations have happened.
