Supportive Sports

Language, often, is to poets
What school teachers, first responders,
And such are to politicians—

Many, many, solemn, windy,
Public invocations get made
On the importance of language

Arts to the society, then
Most of the little words who work
At those homely, important chores

Exploited by top shelf poets
Are ignored. Poets have real lives
And goals. Small words are just supports.
