The ferry’s not running tonight.
You’re too late for the last crossing.
This has happened before. You’ve sat
In the moonlight, watching small waves,
Debating with yourself whether
You should go find a motel room,
A cheap one that you can afford,
Get a few hours sleep in a bed,
Or just nap here until morning,
Then catch the first ferry across.
A metallic taste in your mouth
Reminds you you might have no choice.
