Everything hurts someone
Before everything’s done,
Even a little rain.
Tires can slide. Shoes can slip.
Even a little rain
Hints someone’s lost their grip.
Usually, it’s ok.
It’s halfway miracle
How smoothly you survive
Every ordinary,
Faintly dangerous day.
More events slide past you,
Glide right around your bed
In silent waves, more than
You can know, as you know,
And most severe flash floods
Only shred the landscapes
Out of mind, far away.
Still, before it’s all done,
Even a little rain
Has likely hurt someone.
