The One-Body Problem

A body at rest, alone in a room
Apparently doing nothing at all
But breathing inevitably’s seething

Through trillions of molecular cycles
Per second, exchanges in every cell.
But that’s never enough action for you,

Is it, you animal? You want to move.
You need to get rid of your waste, find food,
Keep your cellular turnover churning,

However calm you are. That’s not enough,
Either, not for the collective systems
Of you clamoring for interactions.

A body circling alone and in place—
You must know the Earth wants out of its shell.
