Whether Hanshan really lived
An animal human life

And, assuming he did, what
Were his final lived years like?
How did his body fail him?

When did he quit writing poems
Boasting of his quiet days
Free of work and effort? When

Did he worry more for food
Or freedom from aches and pain
Than how he wanted to live?

Who, if anyone, took care
Of carefree Hanshan ending
His days, assuming he lived?
