Can you think of any religion
In which it’s an article of faith
That humans invented parasites?

Not that humans are responsible
By means of some original sin,
Some defiance or promise-breaking,

But that humans thought up parasites,
Figured they might be a good idea
And started in on designing them.

No? Then they would have to be nature,
Life’s responsibility, the half
Or more species that are parasites,

Or else parasitism started
In the mind of some designing god,
Some great, supernatural being.

That seems implicit in religion.
Humans could never cook up such things.
Consider this, the next time you sneeze.
