The Infinite Lies Between Zero and Anything at All

The variability
In cultural progeny
Far exceeds, or more quickly,

The variability
In reproductive fitness.
Both are bounded by zero,

And yet, while almost all minds
Produce exactly zero,
A few the winds carry off

In sky-clouding multitudes.
Offspring, on the other hand,
Are common as ones and twos,

But rarely exceed dozens.
We say this who are nothing
Much new much more than nothing.
