The reason thoughts can seem
Wiser than the writers
Whose meager lives shaped them
Has to do with language
Being stronger, faster
Than any one body
Language passes over.
It’s the language that’s wise
Or foolish depending
On how each thought disrupts
The waves, diverting them.
Look at the whole river
To see what makes oxbows
Or whitewater rapids
Where rocks lie in the way.
