Forgetting

Once upon a time,
You owned this house. You
Were the new owner,

The one with the rights
And legal papers,
And you felt nothing,

Since you were so new.
You lived here for years,
Then you sold the house.

When you visited,
You felt attachment,
Nostalgia, fondness.

More years passed before,
For a little while,
You rented this house

That you used to own.
This time, when the time
Came to leave again,

You found that you felt
Strangely possessive.
Like everything else

That makes a person,
Ownership’s only
Owned by memory.
