Lost Soul

An iris looks
Like a planetary
Nebula around

A sunlike star
That’s dying.

Or the nebula,
Which is no cloud,
That was a mistake,

Looks like a human
Iris lost in night
Skies, no white,

Just the spectral
Ring of fine emission lines,

Oxygen and hydrogen,
Streaming from a pupil

Burned clear by a hot star.
