You’d like to know what happens,
Except that you’re what happens.
No one tells a cliffhanger
While they’re hanging from a cliff
Without any author’s tricks
In mind for saving themselves.
It’s harder to be sanguine
About a past that matches
Too many pasts that went splat
Moments past where this one’s at.
Do you really want to know?
Most people caught in a trap
That’s closing get obsessive
Less with planning than regret
And daydreams. You may fly yet.
