Oppositional

They tie around themselves continuously,
A single winding strip that, like organisms
Composed of so many interlocking clones,
Seem more like many distinct phenomena
Than one. But they must be two, at least,
They must be. They can’t be one. Nothing
Is really one. So watch them too carefully,
Though you know you can’t be too careful.
Look at them now, waves concentrating,
Facing off in the middle of the all-waves,
A line of undulating foam like battle lines
At Troy, at Somme, like the sinuous, double
Walls of the singular Great Wall. This one
Redoubling curve of dying lives yet again.
