Words Aren’t Ashamed to Admit Words Are Meaningless

You may have heard a thousand words
Make up about ninety percent
Of conversation in English.

We know of one guy who rewrote
Creation, the science version,
With those thousand most common words.

We found the book entertaining
But weren’t upset you boxed it up
After one reading and stored it

In your unit with the broken
Laundry machines and spare mattress.
Every word has reasons for pride.

The common ones get more work done.
The rare ones have their specialties.
An ecosystem yields hybrids,

Mutants. There are lots of niches,
Lots of opportunities, lots
Of opportunists in our midst.

At home, we don’t discriminate
Amongst ourselves. Prejudices
Require meaning. You bring meaning.
