That’s Just Stupid

People will talk at length about their lack

Of confidence, but rarely will you find

Someone who lacks the confidence to say,

That’s just stupid, once in a while, even

If only under their breath—That’s stupid,

Or some phrase to that effect, expressing

An instinctive contempt for opinion

On some topic, weighty or trivial,

Or extremely trivial, others hold.

That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard,

You mutter, implying you’ve heard a lot

Of stupid things you’re too smart to believe,

But it’s always something someone believes,

Someone who doesn’t lack the confidence

To announce, now and then, That’s just stupid.
