Beyonders

Why would you want to be
What you don’t seem to want
Others ever to be?

And yet you love travel,
Go for tours, make visits,
Relocate for years, lives,

By free choice, by half choice,
By desire for better—
Perhaps even stranger,

The most disliked strangers
Can be the ones never
Chose nor wanted to come.

There’s some thrill to being
Or meeting beyonders,
Asymmetrical, true—

Other allures for each,
And differing terrors,
But it’s there. You feel it.

As a stranger, to be
Overwhelmed by strangers,
To dream of aliens

And come to find you’re one
Is a strange adventure,
And maybe you’re all one.
