Ants on a Marble Floor

They’re winning. The expanse
Is vast and glistening
Mostly white, revealing

Them as tiny black specks
That move if you watch them.
Scale, darlings. It’s all scale,

All that you consider
Important is only
A choice of contrasting

Scales. The vast marble floor
Is a speck in the world,
And every little word,

Every squiggle of black
Ant crawling over blank
Space is a vast system

Harboring viruses
And spores directing ants
Across the page to change

However much ants change
The meaning of the world.
Meanwhile, the marble’s cold.
