What Isn’t in the Details

Composing for the imaginary
Poetry readers your skull generates
Is the best way to write for nobody,

And writing for nobody is a skill,
A difficult skill. You have to remove
Memories of any actual souls

In favor of familiar compound ghosts
Corresponding precisely to no one.
There’s a reason why wraiths are seen as vague

Yet almost always human in outline.
You’re haunted by wanting a revenant
To pay attention to you, your pale smoke.

Ghosts are made by removing small details.
Ghosts are godless, having lost their details.
