There’s a disconnect between thoughts
And the world that can only be
Overcome by circuitous
Bucket brigades of trading routes,
So that goods at one end end up
Transported, much handled, often
Damaged, somehow to the other.
It’s not that thoughts can’t change the world,
But if they can, it’s at the end
Of a laborious network
Of intermediary steps.
You could say, if you like, wishes
Are thoughts without trading partners,
Abandoned stands on empty roads.
