The Need to Destroy Young Males

Experienced existence
Entails patient attendance
Similar to listening
To an oral narrator—

You can’t skip ahead through parts
You find too tense or boring.
You have to wait for the tale
To move on to more action.

So you fidget and you wait,
Like young men anxious to rule
Or at least make a ruckus,
While the old men calculate

How many ceremonies,
Competitions, and trials
They can raise as obstacles
To keep the young men at bay.

Not everyone’s a young male,
But their surplus illustrates
Why you patiently attend—
Everyone’s expendable.
