Don’t Let the Evening Fool You

Tonight’s twilight looks accomplished,
Like it’s arrived with a purpose,
Here to ask you where your life went.

Your life hasn’t gone anywhere.
It wasn’t there and then wasn’t.
It didn’t evanesce. You may

Not like the look of it from here,
But it wasn’t something you spent.
It was everything that happened.

It just kept arriving, never leaving,
More of it and more of it and
Now you might be concerned

It won’t keep on arriving, but,
Darling, you know it never went.
