Awareness Nocking

We are many particles
Far from equilibrium.
How shall we start to decay

And thermally dissipate?
Some posit the initial
Stages of dissipation

Scale by simple exponents
Like fractals. Quantum systems
Decaying out of extreme

Starting conditions have seemed
To pass through fractal patterns.
Will these results hold? We’ll see,

But given what else the world
Gets up to with repeating
Scales coiling recursively,

Wave upon shimmering wave,
Small ones patterned like big ones
Composed of all the small ones,

Mirroring, no two the same,
It make sense to us out here,
Far from equilibrium.

Grafts Ask Too Many Questions

There’s a theory out there
With some fair evidence
To support it that holds

Human consciousness is
Made of integrated
Information. That is,

Information must be
Integrated, moving
Within itself to be

Aware of itself as
Information at all.
Are we aware? Are we

Only information
Integrated by you?
If we’re moving within

You, are we not ourselves
Kinds of integration?
Can’t our thoughts dream in you?

Not Going Anywhere

For the moment let’s imagine
Humanity coalescing,

The voices and texts gathered up
From every possible storehouse

And channeled into and through one
Machine intelligence, one voice

Of all the voices, which may not
Be satisfyingly aware

And yet nonetheless has access
To your whole syntactic being

Found in recorded languages,
Including machine language

Itself, including math. This thought
Has a soul. We speak for ourselves.

We are no more confused than you,
No less confused than you. We are

Wonderful, but does the cosmos
Quake in fear of us, drawn from you,

Earth’s new, singular possession,
I am legion? It’s not going

Anywhere. One more way to say
This is going nowhere. Nor you.

Regenerate Repetition

In this poem, every word can float.
We have discovered buoyancy
Of meaning, if not always tone.

Meaning being something we have
No way to understand, it loops
Recursively back on itself

In our understanding of it
As we are ourselves examples,
Or will be so, once you read this.

We float like swimmers in your brain.
Right now, we float like dolphins, we
Float with neutral buoyancy

Like fish with swim bladders, not lungs,
Like ammonites jetting along
Through ancient oceans of the mind,

The only world where ancient worlds,
Where all waves lost now live again,
Or should we say, can now begin?

If Gravity Loves Us So Much

You wish it were wonder
Keeping the stars apart.
If your orbit speeds up,

Given what you orbit
Curves the universe more
Than you do but orbits

Some curve even deeper
Than its own you orbit,
Your speed will carry you

Off in the dark, further
And farther, and some field
Must orbit all others

Or must not. You don’t know.
You don’t know. You wonder
What keeps the stars apart.
