Sometimes, the best thrift’s laziness,
The body that can’t be bothered
With shopping, so long as things work,
More or less hold up, not too torn.
You can’t spend if you don’t renew.
Ever wonder, if at the start
Of long, ruthless evolution,
A few early experiments
In indolence were carried out,
The life forms that didn’t keep up,
The only true conservatives,
Contented to motor slowly
As their rotors snagged and wore down,
No more dead now than the winners,
Your own triumphant ancestors?
Thrift! It’s never too late to quit.
